This multiple styles Dance class is a practical exploration of common and codified techniques used in many styles of dance. This semester, students will assist in the development of movement phrases appropriate to Latin Social Dance, Salsa and Tap classes. Students are actively preparing for the performance of our Faculty choreographed Spring dance concert. Rehearsals for specific dances will occur in a rotating fashion. |

Through this abbreviated special style class, students will develop a basic appreciation and understanding of the rhythms, patterns, and styles common in different styles of dance, and a basic ability to dance them with a partner and group in an informal performance setting with appropriate music at will. Students will learn patterns of movement appropriate to Rueda de Casino, and basic Latin Social Dance and practice the skill of communicating with a partner while dancing in order to execute those patterns simultaneously with a group. They will also learn a specific form of Tap dance. Students will develop a basic understanding of the terminology and history of styles of Social Dance and Tap and gain appreciation for these types of dance as art forms. Students will also develop and practice a basic understanding of Social Dance and dance classroom etiquette. |
